Forest School at Ruskin Infant School Ethos
At Ruskin Infant school and Nursery the children have the opportunity to experience the natural world for themselves, in a child led environment. We inspire and encourage the children to learn independence, confidence, courage, self-motivation, self-discovery.
An important aspect of Forest School is the consideration, respect and responsibility for themselves, others and their environment. The experience of Forest School encourages communication skills, increased self esteem and positive attitude to learning.
The philosophy of Forest School is to encourage and inspire individuals to enjoy the opportunities offered by natural play, through positive outdoor experiences. We provide a combination of freedom and responsibility which is beneficial to the children, particularly those with little confidence or challenging behaviour.
By participating in engaging, motivating and achievable tasks and experiences in a woodland environment, the children have the opportunity to develop intrinsic motivation, sound emotional and social skills, use their own initiative to solve problems and co-operate.
